Relief     King Ebony     Stamps

Dike retains both her confidence and an optimistic view of life. This buoyancy of spirit has enabled her to radically experiment and yield to the overwhelming urge to create in different media. An immediate by-product is that she liberated her relief sculpture from the wall and moved some of them into the round.

In the refreshingly free-standing work, Pennies and Palms (1987), she addressed the theme of slavery depicting a convoy of kidnapped women and men bound in ropes of bondage. Determinedly pushing the boundaries of experimentation, Dike works in ceramics, textile, paints, produces one - of - a-kind furniture, weaves artworks out of ropes, and creates collages with vegetable fiber. Soon after graduation, she expanded her repertory of skills, by teaching herself to sculpt in wood. Versatility became her trademark.
